Happy Tuesday! I’m writing this post after two incredibly energizing conferences in NYC where I met colleagues and learned about the state of the performing arts field. There was so much discussion, optimism, and excitement around the changing face of the performing arts. The entire experience inspired me to write. I look forward to sharing my thoughts in the coming weeks and I’m kicking things off with the latest edition of my newsletter for all of you.

- How To Adopt Micro Habits: I have long been a fan of micro habits. Taking daily, small steps towards achieving my big, life-changing goals gives me the confidence to keep going on the things that matter most in my life.
Tip: Set aside time each day to take small steps towards your big life and career goals. I found this list of micro habits to be a great catalyst for me as I dive deeper into my goals for 2023.

- How To Set Anti-Goals: Like looking for places to cut costs when trying to balance my budget, I often find myself looking for places to cut redundant work to clear out space for my most important work. I’ve found this to be a great way to find balance in my work and life.
Tip: When you sit down to set goals in your weekly calendar, take a moment to look back at how things went the week before to help you identify the areas that took the most time and then try to eliminate them in the week ahead. Justin Welsh calls these anti-goals and wrote a great blog post about how to set goals each week.

- How To Embrace Differentiation: When I launched my first non-profit in 2004, I knew that I wanted to create an organization that was different from the multitude of other non-profit performing arts organizations in existence but I continuously got stuck on how I would be different. That was until I realized that I was the differentiation in the equation.
Tip: In our hyper-connected, technologically savvy world, embrace the fact that you are the factor when it comes to differentiation. For any idea that you develop, make certain that you center your own experiences in the process to make your idea relevant and different to others in your creative space. Here’s a great post by Not Boring that discusses differentiation.
